Yummmmmmmm

Look what came in the mail today, a sinterklaas/Christmas package from the Netherlands!
My aunt and Uncle are soo sweet.
Guess what we are having for dinner tomorrow?? Bami, we love it, and besides from kroketten it is a thing I crave sometimes.
Tycho is very happy with his Lego racer and with the Stroopwafels.
The first thing we opened where the salmiak lollies, looooooooooooove those. and the salmiakballen too.
We are so lucky nobody here likes those, so we do not have to share.
Friends already know we love those "spitt balls", and are happy to pass on that treat.
But Hagelslag everybody loves around here, last year I took some to school and made the kids beschuit met hagelslag. They are still asking about it!

Pink!

One of T's news articles, he only wrote the headlines we are still waiting for the stories.
It is officially holiday season out here, our neighbor is busy stringing the lights outside and driving around town I saw a lot more reindeer, Santa's and candy canes that all can be plugged in at night. Well I could not be the last to put up some decoration, so I plugged in my little tree in my office.
So cute, and honest, every girl needs a pink tree!! Now I need to come up with a x-mas card to send out to everybody, How about pink and some bling????

HAPPY DECORATING!

Happy Thanksgiving !

Happy Thanksgiving! We are relaxing at home today, watching TV and playing computer games.
we did some gardening yesterday, we replanted a tree, and planted the tulip-bulbs.
the last one was T's job, so it will be a surprise in spring where the tulips will show in our garden. One thing is the soil here, there is no way, when it is wet and you just dug a hole in it you are going to walk trough it with your shoes without being re-soled with a clump of dirt.
I just had to take a pic of J's shoes when he walked back to the tree to see if it was planted right.
Tycho is writing newspaper articles, he is so funny, he is interviewing us. I so love when he does those kind of things. It makes me smile and happy.
More about his articles later today!

almost Thanksgiving

It was a fun day today, we had a thanksgiving performance at school. Every kid had to choose a person from the Mayflower and had to do research on them.
so we present you with Isaac Allerton, aka Tycho.
and then there is this little girl I met today, Isn't she cute??
guess what I am wishing for from Santa this year..........................................(hint, hint)

Fall day

I took these pictures today, the boots from the girls are so funny, look closely at how they wear them, must be not so comfy! (ha) Love those boots, I wish they came in that color in my size!
And the barn is so typical American for me, this one is not far from us and every time I love to look at it when I drive by. Today I stopped and took this picture.
It is getting close to thanksgiving, turkeys are piled high in the groceries stores. Every year
when the birds are arriving in the stores I have to think about the song from Yoep van 't Hek, "Flappie" about a bunny that ends up on the Christmas table.

Here is the Turkey version on the song, I do not know who wrote it, but it is soooooo funny.

"Come Late in November"

When I was a young Turkey, new to the coop,

My big brother Tom took me out on the stoop,

Then he sat me down, and he spoke real slow,

And he told me there was something that I just had to know.

His look and his tone I will always remember,

When he told me of horrors.............come late in November;

"Come about August, now listen to me,

Each day you'll get six meals instead of just three,

'And soon you'll be thick, where once you were thin,

And you'll grow a big rubbery thing on your chin.."

"And then one morning, when you're warm in your bed,

the farm wife comes in and hacks off your head!"

"Then she'll pluck out your feathers so you're all bald 'n pink,

And scoop out your innerds right there in the sink!"

"and then comes the worst part" he said.......... "I'm not bluffing,

She'll spread your cheeks wide n' pack your rear with stuffing!"

Well, the rest of his words.... were too grim to repeat,

I sat on the stoop.... like a winged piece of meat,

And I decided on the spot that to avoid being cooked,

I'm gonna lay low to remain overlooked!

I began a new diet... of nuts and granola,

High-roughage salads, carrot juice..... diet cola,

I maintained my weight of two pounds and a half,

And act like I'm sick..... when the bigger birds laughed;

And as they ate pastries, chocolate, and crepes,

I stayed in my room doing Jane Fonda tapes;

For 'twas I who was laughing, under my breath,

As they chomped and they chewed, ever closer to death;

sure enough when,...... late November rolled around,

I was the last turkey, left walking around......

So now I'm a pet..... in the farmer's wife's lap,

I haven't a worry.... so I eat..... and I nap.....

She holds me all day, while sewing an humming.....

Ans smiles at me, ands says: "Christmas is coming..."

Rain, scarves and friends

We went to Carmel Valley on Friday, the weather was perfect, and Tycho fell asleep in the car.
As soon as I turned off the engine, he awakes and asks " Hey we are not home, where are we?"
We walked around, and took some pictures, so I can see where to put the bride and groom in the op coming wedding I have to do there.
We came upon this friendly kitty, with a big belly.
Tycho asked if the cat was pregnant, so Jill asked the lady behind the desk.
Her reply "Well honey we can not all be a size five!" (she was not a size five herself if you feel where this is going).
We just did not got her on a good and friendly day.

Saturday and Sunday we had the boutique at the winery. Saturday started of with pouring rain.
It was cold and wet, but I love these events, every year we meet old and new vendors and we grow a friendship. We spend two days visiting, sharing our stories what happened with our families and friends during the time we did not see each other.
Sunday it was Sunny and warm, lucky for me because I had an outdoor photo shoot.
Ha, and the fun part I sold some of my knitted scarves. I had knitted a couple just for fun, and low and behold there are people who really liked them and snatched them up. At the end of Sunday afternoon I had only two left.
So of to the knitting needles for me because there are more to sell in December. HO HO HO

Wednesday

Wednesday, the middle of the week, two more days and it is weekend.
It rained today and finally it was a little colder!
I so want it to be colder, and wear thick sweaters instead of t-shirts and shorts.
I am getting ready for the photo shoots that are upcoming, it is as always crazy just before the holidays.
My first shoot is already done, and in two weeks I have a wedding to do. I love doing weddings, love to capture all the emotions on people's faces.
Of to do more work, more tomorrow.

I knit

OK, I know, I am a nerd but I love knitting. Made this little hat over the weekend, I was not sure about the colors but these I had at hand. When it was finally finished late (very late) on Saturday night, Jan tried it, and I could not help but laughing, it looks funny!
I do not give in that easy so I tried it on, it fits but I don't like myself with a hat on.
Today I wanted some pics for Christmas cards, and Tycho tried it on, well judge for yourself, like it or not, maybe I knit another one, with not so out there colors or just tone on tone colors.
Anyway, the pictured turned out really nice!, now what to choose for my cards???

Boo

What a fun night Halloween is, we had friends over for dinner, and although the kids could not wait to go out to "trick our treat" they all ate very good.
Finally it was time to go, I am always amazed at the amount of candy they come home with.
In our house it usually ends up in the "Candy-bin" and waits until I have to throw it out.
After the kids came home the big candy trade started, and wonder above all, they did not fight over the best candy.
The tough part is getting up the next morning and going to school and work again after such a special night.
Now it is up to Thanksgiving and then it is time for the Christmas trees.
I saw a too cut pink tree, wouldn't that be nice for my office. It already makes me happy thinking about it!!! yeah
