Pizza and Fire

We woke up this morning to a wild fire going on in the mountains. Not a very nice sign to wake up to.
Here the view taken from the schoolyard from T's school at around three this afternoon.
This was the view from the school where I work, around two this afternoon.
Not good, last update was that there is around 4000 square miles burning so far, the wind was surely not helping this today. It finally died down a bit.
You can find out more here and here
T went on his Pizza walk today, they went to every pizza parlor on first street and at every store they ordered a large pepperoni. The kids divided every pizza between them, tasted, counted and evaluated every pizza and the restaurant. So much fun! After T came home I suggested a pepperoni pizza for dinner.
He was not very happy about that, according to him he is not going to have another slice of pizza for at least a couple of months!!! (hurray for field trips)

Brunhilde and Kool-aid

Last night I finished a hat for Crazy Hat day at school, now I have two! The kids will love to see me walking around with the hats. That reminds me I need to make a picture of my "cupcake with flowers TP-cozy-hat". Only problem is that my model is not so keen on wearing them for a picture. People that know T can see in this picture he is not happy at all with his Crazy-hat-knitting Mom. And I even offered to knit him a "male" version of this one, it even has horns instead of wings!!! Those wings remind me of the song "I believe I can fly" and the movie "Ice age 2".
Remember the Kool-aid dyed sock yarn? above the socks I am currently knitting with it. And this weekend I could not resist, there was some red, pink and green Kool-aid saying "Hello" to me every time I went into the pantry. And when it is over a 100F outside it is the perfect weather to dry a skein of yarn in the sun!

Heat wave

Boy it is hot outside! For the last three days the temperatures went past the 100 degrees F
And believe me that is beyond nice summer weather. Yesterday there was the trod for our school. They decided that instead of having it in the afternoon after lunch, it would start in the morning because of the Spare the air day and the severe heat advisory.
Even in the morning it was already very warm. Kids are amazing though, some of them managed to walk 30 or more laps (three laps is a mile). Of course there was plenty of water to drink, and in spray bottles to go around. there was even a station with misters to stand underneath. Than for every so many rounds the kids got tickets for the carnival games set up around the schoolyard, or they could buy freezies or popcorn with them.
No need to say that there was not a kid that had a dry shirt on, they had so much fun walking and throwing water at each other. There where parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles cheering them on or even walking with them. By the time it was one o'clock and everybody went happily into their cool classrooms or the multipurpose room to have a good lunch the temperature hit the 100F.
Parents set out a table with lost items, this picture is only one of the tables and not to mention the racks full of clothing. AMAZING how many jackets and sweaters we collect over one schoolyear that nobody is missing. And most of them are really nice ones.
If T ever leaves a sweater at school I give the kid a hard time and make sure he takes it home the next day. Lucky for me this only happends once every year, he is a really good about putting the stuff in his backpack.

Today the weather again was very hot, T and J went swimming at the neighbor and afterwards they all came over here to have dinner.
We do this a lot over the summer, we talked about how much we like it here and having good neighbors makes it even more fun.

Mothers day

Happy Mothers day to all the Mothers out there! And to all the women in the world. I found this picture the other day on the web. It made me smile. What also made me smile was the Mothers day card I received from T.
Make no mistake about what kind of card this is, it says so on the front! Knowing that my son does not like to draw, this is a master piece.
He just simply does not like to do art in any way. According to my DH I OD him, with all my crafty stuff.
T once had to make a book report that involved a cover just like a book. His only had the name of the writer and the title on it. When asked where his artwork for the book was, he replied :" it was a book without pictures"!
Yeah, enough said....................

My Leafling socks are finished and the recipient is wearing them ever since. I finished them last night, while he was sitting next to me one sock already on his foot waiting for me to bind of the second one and weaving the ends in. Last reports are that they are nice and warm and fit really well.

Ready for the next pair, this yarn T and I dyed together with Kool-aid, he loved to do it and I just marveled at how bright the colors came out and that people actually drink this stuff!!
The cuff is already knitted, and now if you excuse me I will go and sit in the garden and knit for a while.

Today we remember all the people lost in the second world war.

baby shower

My weekend was a very busy one, on Saturday I spend my whole day at school and today I had to attend a baby shower. My first one, ever! In the eleven years we have lived here, I managed to go by without a shower, baby or bridal.
And no, when I was pregnant with T I did not have a shower. So I went, after getting the cake and the balloons, because the person who needed to get those was running late (.....).
We had to play games, I had heard of games at showers, and I do not like them.
Turned out most of the women who where there did not like playing the games, and a bunch of us tried to escape.
Did not work, out "hostess" likes games, and makes sure that EVERY ONE plays. She made a word scramble, so we where scrambling our heads of, turns out she misspelled two words. Heeeheeee, funny because they are all teachers !!! And did you know that the word diapers can also be "unscrambled" in despair!
There she goes, it took three women to carry the presents!!

Next Thursday, a bridal shower!
