Balancing

Surgery is behind me, still not feeling very well, but better than the first two days.
Worst thing is waking up from the anesthesia, really, really not on my top list of fun things to do.
And the drive home afterwards was not that fun either, although most of it did not register on my brain. I was so happy to be in my own bed, and sleep of all the bad feelings, laying still is the best medicine if you want the world to stop spinning around you.
The next day was better, and today I even ventured out the guest bedroom to the living room and sat on the couch........... a whole new experience! Still dizzy, but getting a little better.

Megpie came over and visited today, she came armed with presents and get well wishes from my knitting friends, and with fries and coffee. You have no idea how good fries are when eating solid food is difficult, and you have been living of of pudding, yogurt and soup for a few days.

Last weekend I took this picture, a humming bird sitting at the very tippy top of a tree. Talk about balance! And it was even windy outside.

Socks and ears

Yesterday I finished of another pair of socks, the pattern is called Rivendell.
The minute they were done, I had DS take a picture of me wearing them. DH was on the prowl for another pair and he snagged them even before I could think of a decent hiding place.
What is it with my men and hand knitted socks?? It seems there is no way they can be knitted up fast enough. DS is picky about color and pattern, DH is absolutely not, he does not care this one has a lace flower in the cuff, nor that there are several pink, orange, red and yellow pair in his (our) wardrobe. And look, over the weekend another bunny "hopped" into our livingroom. I can't wait for easter so we can dress up the easter breakfast table with Bunny-egg-cozies (lol)

Tomorrow the big day, finally I am going in for surgery on my ear, hopefully in a few weeks my hearing in my left ear will be restored and we can give the speakers from the TV a rest.
And I can stop repeating to people what I "think" they said, or maybe not...............
It has become really bothersome, trying to hear what people say to you, asking if they can repeat it for you. Not being able to participate in conversations simply because I don't know what everybody is telling.
Only using one ear bud from your Ipod, the other one just "dangling" or in my ear just because there are two.
By the way, why do they have to make those "buds" so big??? They don't fit, and fall out with every move. Don't these pod people know there are also people with small ears???

Spring

Yes, it is Spring, how do I know?? The people on the news told me on Friday morning it is official, but the garden already gave it away. Look, we have blossoms on our tree. Lovely! Of course this asks for some spring time knitting, in the form of Easter bunny egg cozy. The pattern is from here.
The picture doesn't do it justice, I'll take another one once I've knitted another cozy to keep it company.
And to keep knitting in happy spring colors, here is something I've been working on, can't say what it is yet, it is a surprise for somebody reading this blog.
Only one thing to say, IT BETTER BE A GIRL!!!

another St. Patricks day

This morning we woke up to another St. Patricks day, and the day our DS gets another year older. Of course we sung the song, decorated the living room (a little) had breakfast and by then it was time to go to school. He was going on a field trip, the Tech Museum and the Philharmonic on one day!
We all donned our green outfits, and it was so much fun to see all our students and parents wearing green. I love these kind of days, it just makes the day so much better.

After school our neighbor boys came over, so cute, they made a big happy birthday sign and gave DS his present.
It needs a little explaining, during the summer they play with their water guns, chasing each other. It evolved from little water pistols (dollar store) that hold only a little water to bigger and bigger ones.
So today he got the Super Soaker Flash Flood model, with possibility to attach the hose directly on this thing!
Now we only need to wait for nice and warm weather and a reeeeeeeeealy long hose.
We went out for dinner and one of the boys joined us, I like it that when they get older the conversations at the table get better, to hear their opinions and thoughts on different subjects is really fun.
But on the other hand it makes me feel old, really old, good thing I am still the mom who is "a little weird" (taking it as a compliment!)

Crazy week

It has been a crazy week, it started with me getting a sore throat, then fever, stayed home from work on Monday. Only to return to work on Tuesday not feeling very good, but as we all know we have to go on.
Busy at work, very busy, Wednesday even busier.
On Wednesday I still don't feel that well, it is not getting any better, and to top it of I wake up at two with a terrible ear ache. I know immediately, ear infection. I never get an ear infection, not even as a kid, but now I can tell you they HURT.
I thought of our son, who had three in his lifetime and poor kid, he has been in some serious pain!!
This morning I called to make a doctor app. and got it confirmed, my ear is infected and got a heavy dose of antibiotics. Hopefully it is gone in time for surgery otherwise we have to reschedule.
It still hurts and the beep in my ear is louder than ever.
Tomorrow it is Friday again, I do hope I am feeling better.

Another Sunday

Yesterday I developed a sore throat, one of these lingering ones that breaks trough at night. There was a little fever last night and this morning I woke up with no more voice. Nice and quiet, if I have to believe DH and DS. My voice is back, not my normal one, but hey there is noise!
What stays is the nice cough that goes on and on and on.
But the at least the weather was nice again.

And the birds where out in the yard again.

Oh, and I started a new project.
Picture to follow, it is really cute.

The Black and White Tiger

It is a very, very nice day today, I took my camera and pod outside and not long after I sat down, the black and white tiger appeared. Hunting for critters. She hides in the grass underneath the olive tree, fully thinking that her "camouflage" hides her position. Not a bird in his right mind will show up while she is there.

maybe, stalking the Robbin underneath one of the trees, but hey, that bird has wings.......I am treated to a very surprised look.
She has better luck with gophers, they don't fly..........

a not so cool move

While cooking dinner for myself, before running out of the door to join my knitting friends for an evening of show and tell, I managed to burn myself.
I a very slick move, I must say it was a really nice catch even without the oven mitt, this girl managed to burn her fingers on the plate of food right out the oven.
It slipped out of my grip with the oven mitt and caught it with my other "not-in-oven-mitt",
Held it in a tight grip and placed the food safely on the counter without spilling anything!!
Ouch!!! Of course I ate the food, jumped in the car en drove away. Once at Megpie's house the hand was burnin' baby, and the rest of the night was filled with an icepack and show and tell (thank you Megpie for hosting us and the use of the ice packs!!)
No knitting, there is no way one can knit one handed.

This morning there are two nice blisters, one on my thumb, one on one of my fingers and my fingertips have a nice feeling to them.
My day was all made better once at work, a hot steaming Caramel Macchiato was waiting on my desk with three fresh scones courtesy of one of the parents!! To top it of a wonderful lunch by the parent club, with super yummy sandwiches and salad.

Now, weekend, and I'll try a little knitting out of that adorable baby book that is calling my name!!

The world of apps

Since I have my trusty Ipod touch we are inseparable, pod and I
Mostly it is used to listen to podcasts and music. Although the minute I put the bud in my ear. Yes, you are reading this right, I am deaf in one ear, so I only have to use one bud, this will be changed into the very near future. Surgery date has been set.
Back to my pod, one of the fun things to do is check out all the apps that are available for this thing. From the very, very addicting game, to the fun things like the whoopie-cushion.
But then there is this one, just what I need, a stitchcounter, and get this, for multiple projects!!
Perfect for the cast-on-another-project-addict like me.

Look 4 projects already, for this pair of socks I have to keep track of 4 different charts, one with only 4 repeats, one with 12 repeats, one with 6 and a center one with no repeat but goes up to 160 or some rows.
I click and keep on knitting, no need to keep counting in my head, or make pencil marks at every round.
And it works like a charm, you set the counter, name your project and set the number of rows in your repeat, and I'm of.
Look I am slowly making progress on my Zum Dirndls, these knee highs are a whole project on itself, knitting them two at at time, chart by chart, so I won't get second sock syndrome!!

And to add to all the patterns the new Twist Collective came out. And oh, the cute baby stuff in there!! For the pending little one for my sister.
