Backyard adventures

It is HOT outside, and while we have no shade (our umbrella broke) the only chance I get to sit outside in the shade and when it is still cool is early in the morning. My favorite time (while not at work) of the day. I just sit and knit and listen to a podcast or two, this one makes me laugh without fail every week.
And while outside, there are lots of critters to watch too. But if you bring your camera outside to "shoot" some, they are all in hiding. Except the Hummingbirds, they know they are to quick for me to photograph.

And this nice fellow who could not crawl away quick enough.

Soon it will be Monday again, a new week, hopefully a little cooler and a little more to watch on TV than a million tributes to MJ every night. And we are debating what movie to go see in the theater, UP (me and DS), Transformers (DS and DH), The proposal (me) or Hangover (all three of us, but it is a R rated movie)
guess we have to split up or someone has to give in or stay home (think who that will be??)

Strawberries

It is Strawberry time here in Garlic land. We love strawberries and the flat I brought home yesterday is already reduced to half the contents. When I thought of taking a picture DS and DH had already each taken a bowl full. And look, they call them "trawberries" and they are "ifornia grown" LOL. You gotta love the little fruit stands at the side of the roads here, next time I'll stop at a Cherries stand.
Have been taking pictures around town, just of random things. Here's one, very random and in need of some paint too.
Have been knitting on my Aeolian shawl, more than 540 beads and counting.

It is Monday

Monday, again, already the second Monday of our Summer break. This is going way to fast. Had to go into work for a little bit today, just for some finishing up. Afterwards I drove over to the store and get DH a new tire for his bicycle. Once home I made lunch while DH and DS changed the flat.

They where done even before I could make the sandwiches, fully expecting them to wrestle with the tire for a longer time. Remembering the times we had to change tires and not to mention fixing a leak. It would take hours, soapy water, two of those tire things to lift the tire, get the inner tube out. Putting the tire back on, calling in help because we could not hold it by ourselves.
Ahhh, the memories. Pedaling to school rain or shine, always prepared for a big rainstorm with our rain gear strapped on the seat, underneath my schoolbag. Two plastic bags at hand for my feet so you would not end up sitting in the classroom with wet feet all day.

Meanwhile after the hoodie, of course I had to cast on something else, baby stuff is so much fun to knit. Here is another one, very quick and so teeny for a 0-3 month old. All I can say it is very CUTE!!

The pattern is called Autumn leaves. Only thing I did was add the short sleeves, the original pattern had no sleeves, maybe the next one will be without the sleeves to be worn over a long sleeved t-shirt or onesie.

Wheels

Somebody in our family got something new yesterday, he grows to fast and had outgrown his old set of wheels. To cut a long story short, DS got new wheels. Fancy ones with gears, he was somewhat resistant to switch gears at first. That lasted about two minutes and he was already a pro. Bad news, DH discovered his bike has a flat, darn, damper on the early morning outing. But with some work it was resolved and there they went, of to adventures.

Of course a shiny new helmet had to accompany the bike, but you have to wear your beany at all cost even at summertime. What reminds me I have to knit him a bigger one, he grows to fast.

And look a little hoodie is finished, my finger is still a bit sore, but really only when touched. So glad my cyst is gone, it feels so much better picking things up and you don't feel it anymore.
Of course I had to start another little cute cardigan yesterday, finished it up today and it is drying from blocking now. Pictures tomorrow. Baby girl knitting is so much fun, lucky for me we have a friend here who is expecting a baby girl the end of October so I can knit more, Yay!!!

DH is on a fancy dinner tonight, of all things he had to go here.
Who knew, we would be connected to my hometown in this way??

So close...

So close and yet so far, I got my growth on my finger removed today. And as a result I can not knit, and it was almost finished, almost! If I only had not complained yesterday that knitting I cord is soooooo booooooring, it would be done. Now this little baby sweater has to wait a few days. Look see the arrows, that is the only missing cord part there was to do.

My knee highs are also on hold, not that they were finished, long legs are a pain to knit for, plus I want the color to change, still waiting for the yellow and white and aqua, this is such an entertaining knit, can-not-put-it-down!! Hate that I can't knit (soooooooooooooo bored, can not do much and typing one handed is taking a long time too)

Yesterday afternoon DS and I decided to color some yarn again with Kool Aid. We soaked the yarn for about 15 minutes, squeezed the water out and dunked it in this, 4 packets of orange and a half cherry.
Look how pretty,

After microwaving, cooling and microwaving again, I thought it needed some more COLOR so did the coloring over with one packet of strawberry and the other half of cherry

Nuked it again, and voila, a nice Orange!! The other skein is colored with 5 packets of black Cherry Kool Aid.

Love the results, now the question is are these going to be socks or something else???
(note to self, have to experiment more with coloring, it is fun)

Our Goofball

Here's our goofball (can't say little anymore) He is so funny, can make remarks that leave you laughing all day. But beware, they might be about you AND hit the nail right on its head.
He is getting very good at writing adds, and really "gets" the whole advertising thing. He thinks about it, and makes comments that make you stop in your tracks and go "wow".

I am so glad he is the "only responsible adult" at our house (that is what he said anyway) and we keep repeating it whenever there is an "issue", and believe me at his age there is drama lurking around every corner.

aawwwwwwwww

Now isn't this cute?? Just had to share.

Finally

It is finally warm enough to do this, and somebody took full advantage of it! If only he would stop saying "Epic" after every sentence.

Got Stripes??

Finished up the Monkey socks for DS today. Last night the only thing I still needed to do where the toe decreases, while finishing them this morning DS announced that his feet were cold. Really you have to give the boy credit it was a toasty 90 degrees outside. Anyway, as soon as the toes where grafted the socks slipped on his feet.
After doing some cleaning work and making lunch, I cast on for another pair of socks, simply because the Noro yarn calls my name every time I pass the Yarn stash. Stripey knee highs, alternating two different color combo's in the yarn.
Boy these go fast, it is just a simple all knit pattern, no fancy stitches, no pattern reading, just simple stripes and very entertaining watching the colors change.
The green yarn has yellow and turquoise inside and the red one goes into pink and some brown and green. Can't wait until those colors start showing.
See, I am just a little kid fully entertained by a simple things like changing colors.

a lovely afternoon

After spending the morning at the doctors office for some check ups and blood work done for my visit at the Rheumatologist on Friday, I decided that an afternoon knitting was in order. The weather was nice, not much sun, it was overcast but the temperature was wonderful and there was almost no wind.
Making nice progress on the Necco Wafer Hoodie for my "yet to be born niece".
I also am determent to finish the Monkey socks tomorrow, one more pattern repeat and the toes to go and then DS has a new pair of socks. Yes, he has claimed these, they are blue! and anything blue is his he said. What is a mom to do??? I can't say no and not provide him with socks.

WWKIP

World Wide Knit In Public day today, we sat at the Farmers market in Morgan Hill. On a bench with trees providing shade, it was a bit on the windy and chilly side but it was very nice.
And the benefit of the market was the nice fresh pastry we enjoyed with our cup of coffee.
Of course some shopping for fresh veggies was done. Tomorrow we have fresh asparagus on the menu, while for today we ate the fresh focaccia bread with zucchini, bell pepper, tomato and mozzarella cheese. YUM (sorry no glass of wine, but instead milk)

Locally grown everything, from apricots to flowers, how tempted I was to buy bunches and bunches of flowers!!

Once home DS and I played some 1 versus 100 on Xbox live, followed by some age of Pirate bounty. (or something like that) We have to fight each other for "ports" and "resources".
The first game I am good at, the second one my son sinks all my ships, takes all my ports and I loose, big time.

Promoted

Our boy promoted today, his very last day of 5th grade and Elementary school. We watched the ceremony, and of course I am a big sap, and a few tears were shed when some of the kids gave speeches. The kids all sang beautifully and it I even got a little smile when DS glanced back to see if his mother was behaving. Then it was time for the Certificates and the shaking of the hands.
And the one thing the kids are wanting to do the minute they start kindergarten, the ringing of the old bell that stands in front of the office. It is a big tradition and liked by everybody. Imagine how many kids this bell has seen pass by in all the years it has been out there.
This has been a special school for us and we will miss the teachers and the grounds. It stands in the country, out of City limits and I will miss the Chickens walking in the streets when I drop DS off in the morning. Not to mention the goats that roam across the street (how come they are a bit on the "heavy side?)

Luckily most of his friends will go to the same middle school, so we don't have to miss them.

After the Ceremony I went back to "my" school, there also where the goodbye's of the fifth graders.
When all the kids left, some of us wandered over to a first grade party hosted by one of the parents. The little ones enjoy it soooooo much when we show up and party (read bounce in the bounce house) with them.
For now, it is Summer break, the first thing I did when I came home today??? take a nice Nap!!

The Tiger is back

The last week before summer break. Five more days of crazy children who are looking forward to their summer and don't really want to go to school anymore. And to top it of on Friday our DS is having his last day at Elementary school. No more "little kid", he is moving on to Middle school. It makes me feel very, very old. Were are the days that he was walking next to me, his hand in mine, to his classroom, eager to meet his new first grade teacher? Or the hugs I got when school got out and I waited in front of his school??
The hug went away in Third grade deemed "to childish", and the kiss goodbye in the morning became a wave followed by a "bye Mom".
Now he is moving on to his next school, new friends, new classes, more homework!!
Even more worries for me, he is getting a teenager!!
But before that new period starts in our lives, there is a summer break, I know it will go fast, but I just love it when he is home, playing with his friends, going swimming, doing the occasional road trip.
And look, every day when I go outside in the morning to knit and drink my morning coffee, I do have a little companion, the black and white tiger.
She comes over and after petting her for a bit she settles in and just sits there watching me. When I go inside, she goes on home.
Only Saturday, there was a party at her house, and she came over for some peace and quiet time.
